AFC U-19 Cup: Our hard work will seal success - Yun Jong-Su

DPR Korea take on Australia at Zibo Sports Centre Stadium on Sunday in a battle for the AFC U-19 Championship crown and coach Yun Jong-su is determined to cap a year-long project with victory.

The 2006 champions comfortably qualified for the tournament last year but the only blot on their copy book was a 3-0 defeat in their final group game to China last November.

Keen not to replicate the mistakes they made in that match the Koreans worked harder than ever in the ensuing months to make sure they were well prepared for this tournament.

The result of their hard work has been clear to see in Zibo and DPR Korea have proved more than worthy of their place in the final, exacting revenge on tournament hosts China to dump them out in the quarter-finals before beating regional rivals and 11-time champions Korea Republic in the last four.

“Last year we lost to the China team in qualifying. This gave us good experience and in the last year our young players have trained harder and harder and worked on their mistakes from that match,” said Yun.

“They don’t want to make any more mistakes in this game (against Australia) and I am sure they will play a good match tomorrow.”

DPR Korea’s strength has been in their defence - which has been breached just once so far – and incisive counter attacks and Yun has no intention of tinkering with this winning tactic against Australia.

“This is our team’s tactics,” he added.

“In the semi-final the Korea Republic attack was strong and in the first half we defended and then attacked more and more in the second half which enabled us to score and win the game.

"In the final our players will pay with both attacking and defensive tactics."

Australia have been particularly impressive going forward and striker Kerem Bulut will be eager to add to his five goals on Sunday with one eye on claiming the top goal scorer award.

“The Australian team has played very well throughout this tournament," continued Yun.

"They have not lost any games and their players have good fitness and good technique.

“But we have training hard and I am sure my players will play well in the final.”
